Lady Ursula's Musings 2008-08-29 - 7:23 p.m. Amazing really that even though we have a drought going on, the oregano took over the front yard. I just filled a three gallon pail with oregano that reseeded in the middle of my yard. It's gone skunky, so its no good for seasoning. I pulled the whole plant and rinsed the dirt off the roots. I have it soaking overnight. Right now I have black raspberry canes cooking in the dyepot. They also have been fighting a grape vine for dominance in the backyard. The water looks honey brown but the book says I'll get yellow with alum. If I wait until the leaves turn, the book says I'll get grey with iron. Humm. Alum I have in abundance. I have yet to attack the grapevines. My biggest worry is avoiding having five yellow-golds floating around before they get labeled. That could prove difficult. I found that several plants give almost the same shade so my log book didn't help sort things out. Guess I'll have to figure out a labeling system while they're drying on the same rack. I'm looking forward to all the lovely fall colors. Photos on my flickr page Ursula
