Lady Ursula's Musings 2007-04-10 - 11:23 p.m. The bottomless dyepot continues. The onion-dyed wool turned a nice yellow-tan, slightly variegated on the superwash after washing the excess dye out. No more spagetti. Tonight we step into Oz. The dried poppies from the Morrocan market are on the boil. I used 10 grams of dried flowers with 1 to 2 gallons water, 2 oz alum and 1/2 oz cream of tartar. I think the amount of color is only suitable for a half pound of wool. The color is the same as my cup of Numi Berry-Black tea. I could find no reference for these except in a 1960s book calling for the use of California Poppies but no recipe. My poppies are used for edible color and for makeup. We will soon see if the deep red is colorfast.
