Lady Ursula's Musings

2002-05-17 - 8:25 a.m.

This missive is going out to all you would-be castle designers (civil engineers):

A word for you for a truly wise design: Always make your draw brigde longer than your moat is wide. Remember that moats fill up especially high in the wet season and design for worst case scenarios. Also remember that the mighty Mississippi was once a creek. Rivers grow as they age. Design accordingly for the number of years you expect the life span of your draw bridge to last. If in doubt, build scale models to try out the effects. The US Army Corp of Engineers is a GOOD Resource to ask if in doubt. And you don't want to know why I am telling you this, REALLY.
